A trip to Taiwan Louvre: Chimei museum

Chimei Museum is called "Taiwan's Louvre."  In the museum, there are a lot of antiques which were collected by the founder Xu Wen Long.  What can we find in the museum?  Let's take a look!

From this side, we can see the main building. It's enormous!

A trip to Baoan Train Staion and Ten Drum Cultural Village

A trip to Baoan Train Staion and Ten Drum Cultural Village

When we talk about the most historic landmarks in Tainan, there is no denying that Baoan train station is the one of the most historic landmark of Rende area, and it is near our school. This small station just to the south of Tainan doesn’t draw a lot of tourists nowadays, but it does get a name for itself due to its Japanese influenced design. Taiwan’s railway line had started before the Japanese occupation in 1895, but most of the early construction was completed by the Japanese during that time. There still are few historic stations around Taiwan that remain from the Japanese-era, but many are disappearing or being taken out of service.  Some old stations like Tainan’s Railway Station were very modern and western when they were rebuilt. Baoan Station, however, is a wooden structure that has retained its original features when it was built. It is one of only a handful of old wooden stations left on the island.

Many people visit the station, not to view its history or take in its romance, but to buy a lucky ticket. If you buy a ticket from Baoan to nearby Yongkang (or vice-versa), the ticket spells out yǒng bǎo ān kāng (永保安康), which roughly translates to “safety and health forever.” In recent years it was very trendy for students to go to Baoan Station just to buy this ticket as a good luck charm.

This board represents the hostory of Baoan train station.

Next, we went to the Ten Drum Cultural Village.Ten Drum cultural village, located in the suburbs of Tainan, is isolated from hustle and bustle of city by a quiet forest trail. Neighboring Tainan city, it offers a new place for the public to experience culture and art. It covers an area of 5 hectares with 16 old-fashioned warehouses built in Japan-ruled period. In 2005, Ten Drum Art Percussion Group took over and redesigned it. In the concept of capitalizing on idle space, designed by world-famous designer Mr. Liu Guo Cang, the village has completed its second phase with limited budget. The former Rende Sugar Refinery, after it was deserted for a long time, revitalized its century-old heritage by the group, blended in Taiwan-specific drum music developed by Ten Drum and transformed it into the 1st drum-themed international art village in Asia. We had a good time there.

A trip to Lin Moniang Park in Anping

A trip to Lin Moniang Park in Anping

There is a sculpture that is well embraced by the city standing in front of the park.

Who is it?

It is Matsu, the human embodiment of the goddess Matsu, as she protects the sea workers and offers an image of piousness to young Taiwanese. The park is probably the most open and sprawling of all the parks in Tainan. Its vast open space makes ideal for any recreation that requires a little extra space.
It is a long park that follows the mouth of the Anping Canal for several blocks before it reaches Anping Harbor. The west tip of the park ends in a hill that overlooks the harbor. A top the hill is a 16-meter-high statue of Lin Mo Niang.

The park is huge! There are a lot of people flying the kite in the park. The status look toward the sea, it seems that Matsu is protecting fishermen.

Taking pictures with the cute dolphin,

We go to Taisuco to buy some food. It is a perfect day!

Our school collaborated with Tenha Organic Farm to plant some organic corns. Do you know what is the meaning of  "organic"?  It means we used a natural way to plant the corn. We didn't use the artificial fertilizers.  In this way, the soils are protected and the people who eat the corns will be healthy!

Our school prepared a land for us to sow the seeds.

After some time, weeds and grasses started to grow.  We pulled out the grasses so that our corns can grow healthily.

The people from Tenha Organic Farm came by today. He said that we should spray something on the corns to kill the worms and put some natural fertilizers so that our corn can grow better.
